Washington, D.C. – While low unemployment, GDP growth, and stock market performance indicate a strong economy, last week’s election results reveal a different reality felt deeply by millions of Americans struggling to afford basic needs. Voters expressed their frustration at the ballot box and demanded change, consistently naming “the economy” as their primary concern.

While employment and income growth have been steady for many, the soaring costs of essentials like healthcare and childcare are straining families —but housing costs remain the most severe burden. The high cost of housing, driven by a nationwide housing shortage, has undermined economic security for a majority of Americans. Countless Americans are one price increase away from financial distress. Deep–seated policy barriers—like restrictive zoning, onerous land–use regulations, and uncertain and lengthy approval processes—have choked housing production, fueled inflation, and placed unsustainable pressures on families and the economy. The call for leadership, vision, and meaningful change has never been clearer.

Up for Growth believes that increasing the supply of homes is key to unlocking economic resilience, personal security, and stronger, more stable communities.
