Statement from Mike Kingsella, CEO of Up for Growth, on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act Becoming Law

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is now law, and American families will be better housed for it.
This is the most significant federal housing legislation in a generation, and it arrived the way durable policy should: through commanding bipartisan majorities in both chambers, at a moment when Washington rarely agrees on anything. Leaders in both parties recognized what people across the country already know, that the cost of housing has become the defining affordability challenge of our time, and that Congress has both the responsibility and the ability to act.
The law gives communities more of the tools they need to build, modernizes outdated federal housing programs, preserves the affordable homes we already have, and helps the country meet the demand of a growing population.
None of this happened by accident. From the day Up for Growth was founded, our network has carried this case to Washington, and this victory belongs to every member of it: the builders, local leaders, researchers, and advocates who signed the letters, took the meetings, shared the data, and told their communities’ stories. You built the momentum. You got this done.
The work continues. A law is only as strong as its implementation, and Up for Growth and our coalition will be at the table for every step of it. But today is worth marking. Congress delivered.
