Up for Growth Action Statement on House Passage of the Amended 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

Washington, D.C. – Today, Up for Growth Action Chief Executive Officer Mike Kingsella released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the amended 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act with a strong bipartisan vote of 396-13. The vote follows a letter led by Up for Growth Action and signed by more than 200 industry, business, and advocacy organizations urging House leadership to advance the bill.

“Today’s overwhelming bipartisan vote in the House is a major step forward in confronting America’s housing shortage. Earlier this year, the Senate advanced landmark housing legislation with broad bipartisan support. The House has now built on that momentum by passing a serious federal housing package at a moment when families, employers, and communities are feeling the consequences of housing underproduction and unaffordability every day.

“The core point is clear: America cannot solve a housing shortage without building more homes. The amended 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act reflects growing bipartisan recognition that federal policy has a meaningful role to play in removing barriers, expanding housing supply, modernizing financing tools, and creating more pathways to rental housing and homeownership.

“With this vote, the House has advanced a strong bipartisan housing package. Congress should now preserve that progress and move quickly to enact legislation that expands supply, lowers costs, and helps communities deliver the homes Americans need.

“Up for Growth Action urges lawmakers to sustain this bipartisan momentum and move this legislation across the finish line. This is a real opportunity to show that meaningful progress on housing is possible, and we look forward to working with lawmakers, advocates, housing providers, business leaders, and community partners to help deliver federal housing policy that meets the scale of the shortage.”
